Between August 20th and 23rd, the Chill and Ride powered by Nissan celebrates its fifth
anniversary. The largest wakeboard-boat event will take place in southwest Germany and
invites wakeboarders and especially wakeboard boat owners to join the event, compete in
the contest and meet like-minded people.
While the number of riders at the contest of the Chill and Ride increased significantly by 20%
during the last years, the number of boats remained steady at twenty-five. These numbers
may not seem to be impressive at first view. At second view however, it becomes clear that
such a boat, manufactured by Correctcraft, Mastercraft, Supra, Moomba or Seadoo, requires
an investment between 40.000 and 100.000 EUR. This may illustrate the elitist conditions
behind the sport and the financial requirements for participation.
But elitist – that is probably the least suitable attribute to characterise these sometimes crazy
and wild acting wakeboard-boat enthusiasts that will take a ride on the Rhine these days. It
is especially the feeling to be around like-minded people at least once a year. To meet
people that share the same passion, a passion that connects them all and that make them
come to this event.
Therefore, the event puts special focus on amicable competitions in a friendly and relaxed
atmosphere. Competitions will be held in the disciplines wakeboarding and wakesurfing and
extended by the popular Team Challenge. On Sunday, most of the international riders will
enter the event and fight for 2.500 EUR prize money.
The fight for the prize money will be spectacular and a high level of wakeboarding action can
be expected. Wakeboarding pros such as Yann Calvez (FRA), David Vervenne (BEL), Kyle
Rattray (CAN), Andy Meyenberg (CH), Marc Müller (CH) und Conni Schrader (GER) already
subscribed for the event and compete against other local and international riders – surprises
more than welcome!
So that is enough for the “Ride” part. Let’s take a look at the “Chill”. The Chill area will
include two sections. The boat hall will be transformed into a party location and lounge area,
which is used for hosting different DJs such as DJ Sandy from SWR / Das Ding that have
only one mission: rock the crowd!
In the afternoon, the hall will be used as a location for exhibitions and fairs that includes
stands of Aktivboot, Jet-Team and Waterworldland as well as a presentation of the Nissan
“Chill and Ride” fashion collection. The varied programme of the Chill and Ride 2009 leaves
nothing to be desired – the combination of sports highlights and relaxed evenings make this
event a memorable experience and the place to be for wakeboarding aficionados.
